BIO

Evan Taylor is a Los Angeles-based record producer. Raised in Madison, New Jersey, the multi-instrumentalist immersed himself in the lush productions of Brian Wilson, Phil Spector and P-Funk and started playing drums, keyboards, guitar and bass before moving out to Los Angeles to briefly attend college. He joined the A&R/production staff at CMH Label Group overseeing various projects including producing “Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie: Reinterpreting Black Flag” the tribute album recasting the 80s punk band’s songs as classic rock, surf rock and country. The album featured Black Flag members Keith Morris, Dez Cadena and Kira Roessler along with Minutemen bassist Mike Watt. punk guitarist Joe Baiza, The Plimsouls and Nerves founder Peter Case.

That project led to fruitful collaboration with legendary synth-pioneer and Rock N Roll Hall of Famer Bernie Worrell aka The Wizard of Woo, best known as 70’s musical director for Parliament-Funkadelic responsible for some of their best music, such as “Flash Light” and his decade as Talking Heads’ secret sauce during their “Stop Making Sense”- era. Taylor served as musical director for the 10-piece Bernie Worrell Orchestra, sharing the stage with such famed guests as George Clinton, Boosty Collins, Talking Heads members Jerry Harrison, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, and James Brown trombonist Fred Wesley. With Worrell, he co-produced the acclaimed 2010 “Standards” and two EPs: “Prequel” and “BWO Is Landing.”

He went on to perform a similar role for Blondie keyboardist Jimmy Destri, as musical director and co-producer of Jimmy Destri and The Sound Grenade. He produced two releases for The Chapin Sisters, the critically acclaimed tribute album “A Date with The Everly Brothers” and their EP “Ferry Boat”. He has also collaborated with The Beastie Boys’ Money Mark on Mark’s anthemic song “Fight with Love”. Taylor also toured with Sub Pop artist King Tuff on his US tour for “The Other”. He continues to sporadically write for offshoots of his east side “indie darling Space Baroque” band Purple Witch of Culver along with Death Valley Girls saxophone aficionado, Sarah Safaie.

His newest production is “Bernie Worrell: A Wave from the WOOniverse” a double-album crash course on the funky genius of Bernie Worrell. The posthumous collection is brought to life by a star-studded collection of musicians and former collaborators including: Bootsy Collins, Jerry Harrison, Fred Schneider, Mike Watt, Leo Nocentelli, Miho Hatori, Sean Ono-Lennon and more.

Taylor is currently in the studio with Warpaint’s Theresa Wayman, working on a collaborative project known as Bon Tempi, with a feature-length film soundtrack recently released. He also continues to perform as live bassist for Imaad Wasif (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lowercase Band)
